CRACK : There's "several hundred years" of
global proved lithium reserves, BP Chief Economist Spencer Dale told ME on
Thursday. As lithium-ion batteries combined with renewables start to angle for
an increasing share of the grid — you all saw that $23.75 per MWh solar+storage
project in Nevada, right? — skeptics suggest there may not be enough lithium
for all the grid storage and electric cars anticipated in the next five to 10
years. But the BP Statistical Review of World Energy put out last week says
there's 358 years worth of lithium reserves at current production rates, mostly
in Chile, China, Argentina and Australia.[ POLITICO's Morning Energy, June 22,
2018]
