STROKING THAT EGO: PART 1

PUERTO RICO

BRAZIL

THROWING ELBOWS: Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer is doubling down on its support of the Commerce Department's decision to slap preliminary anti-subsidy tariffs on Canadian competitor Bombardier. Embraer CEO Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva told POLITICO Wednesday that he agrees with fellow rival Boeing, who has complained that Bombardier is being unfairly subsidized by its government. "They are receiving money from the government and selling at below cost," he said about Bombardier. "My point is that maybe they should be no longer in business, this company." The Commerce Department announced Tuesday that it plans to apply a 219 percent tariff to Bombardier's new C-Series regional aircraft to offset subsidies.

At a time when career politicians are practicing divisive politics, I am running for Congress in Michigan’s 8th district to do something different: to set the vitriol aside and put our country and our community ahead of everything else.     Elissa Slotkin

After beginning my career as a CIA intelligence officer, I joined the State Department and pushed for peace in the West Bank and Gaza Strip alongside my close friend Ambassador Chris Stevens, whom we lost in Benghazi.

Pro-choice Democratic women are running for office across the country and changing the face of government at every level. Next year, we will have the chance to elect more EMILY’s List-endorsed governors than ever before.

Governors are the last line of defense against President Trump and the Republicans’ relentless attacks on choice. We’ve previously endorsed two amazing women already serving as governors in their states—Gov. Kate Brown of Oregon and Gov. Gina Raimondo of Rhode Island—and are excited to announce 5 more candidates who are ready to fight for our rights.

It is up to us to support women who are fighting back like Gov. Kate Brown (OR),Gov. Gina Raimondo (RI), Stacey Abrams (GA), Gwen Graham (FL), Cary Kennedy (CO), Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM) and Gretchen Whitmer (MI).

VOTER SUPPRESSION

“Their [the Russians’] aim was to sow chaos,” said Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. “In many cases, it was more about voter suppression rather than increasing turnout.”

Democratic Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap apparently doesn’t know what’s going on.  As a commissioner on the sham Trump-Pence election commission, Dunlap told the Washington Post earlier this week that the commission was not communicating with him about its basic activities. That’s left him in the dark about when (and if) the commission will even meet again.
Dunlap obviously sees on some level that the commission is not operating honestly and transparently. He needs to take it a step further and admit the entire commission is a sham.  Dunlap must resign his seat on the sham commission and help make sure it never meets again.

Nationally, the Democratic Party is gaining support as the country’s demographics become increasingly diverse. The Republican Party has operated for years as if its best chance to cling to power is not to build a party worth supporting, but to deny participation in the political process to Democratic voters.  It’s time to stop pretending that this commission is anything but a sham designed to further the decades-long Republican voter suppression project.
If the commission’s lack of organization and communication makes it seem shady and illegitimate, that’s because it is.  Dunlap shouldn’t sit around worrying about the sham commission’s ability to communicate. He should resign from it.  This commission is unequivocally declaring war on voters. It is laying the groundwork for nationalized voter suppression that will strike a huge blow against our democracy’s legitimacy. That’s far more important than how commissioners communicate.  -- LegitAction Team
