House Panel Moves to Hold Attorney General and Commerce Secretary in Contempt Over Census Question

So I think we all knew that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and others in the Trump administration were lying through their teeth when they said they wanted to include a citizenship question on the 2020 census because the Justice Department requested it. There were reports that Commerce officials browbeat the DOJ into making the request and to pretend it was necessary to enforce the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In fact, the DOJ initially refused to write the request, saying that a citizenship question wasn't needed.

Just about everybody who knows anything about the census has said the question will suppress response, violating the constitutional mandate to count every person living in the US. Even the government's census experts argued against the question, saying there were far better and cheaper ways to determine citizenship status. Ross ignored them all. [Fast Forward, May 31, 2019]

Not Buying This Deal
President Trump has vowed to make the “ultimate deal” to end generations of discord between Israelis and Palestinians and appointed son-in-law Jared Kushner to head the effort. Now, after numerous false starts, the Trump administration is preparing to unveil its Mideast peace plan in the coming weeks. But Palestinians have already indicated their unhappiness with the plan, given that initial indications suggest it is aimed at pleasing Israel while offering financial incentives to Palestinians but no pathway to statehood, their primary demand.
